Hello! I'm so excited that we will be sharing all if our adventures!

Briana

Tractor!!!

Our tractor will arrive tomorrow! Today I purchased a 26hp tractor, 4x4, front end loader, brush mower and tiller. Ready to start preparing the land for whatever farming plans we have in the future. I'll post pictures this weekend. We close on our city house next Friday, so we are scrambling to move all our stuff to storage. We will start building after closing. It's amazing how much stuff accumulates in a house after living there for 9 years.

Closer and closer everyday.....

So we have a contract on our city house that closes 3/18/2011. Then we can begin construction on our farmhouse. Our big purchase of the week: windows! We got all of our windows for the house for $1500!!! Double hung, low-E, Argon and contour grids. A couple of casement windows for the kitchen also. The miss measured pile at Window Mart was plentiful this week. That's the way to go if you are able to build around windows instead of trying to have windows made that fit. All we need is a tempered glass window for above the bathtub.

Still looking for a tractor. I went to Brinkley Tractor Auction in Idabel, OK last week. It was amazing to see so many tractors. Only a few I had my eye on and got outbid on all of them. The right one will come along.

This is the fifth draft of south elevation of our future home at Appaloosa Farmstead. We will share the floor plan when it is completely completed.

We are meeting our "Designated Representative" to design our septic system this Saturday. I am also meeting with a well driller next Tuesday to evaluate the land and locate the perfect spot for the well.

Still looking for a used tractor with front end loader and bushog.....

That's all for now.

Happy Holidays!!! Update.....

Our house in the city is officially for sale and listed. We have a contract on the house with contingency so we're not home free (pun intended) yet.
As soon as we close on this house, we will squat in my parent's basement while we build our farmhouse. Plans and pictures to come.

Happy New Year!

Another update.....

Updates coming few and far between. We have lots of excuses!!!

11 apple trees planted - lost 3 over the hot, dry summer.
18 blueberries planted - I think we still have 10-12. It's hard to tell with the 5 foot tall pasture grass growing around the tiny plants.
4 SweetBay Magnolias planted - 3 survived the summer. The ones that did survive look great!!!
Our picnic table is hidden by the pasture that did not get hayed with the rest of the lots in the neighborhood. I think the hay guy was afraid he would cut our trees down. Now I'm looking for someone to bush hog 2+ acres.

We are getting our house in town ready to put on the market - painting, repairing, etc.

Update. It's been a while!

We have been working on the farmstead a lot lately. So far we have planted: 4 apples trees with 4 more very soon. 12 blue berries with 6 more very soon. 1 Red Maple - Autumn Blaze I think. 4 Sweet Bay Magnolias. Transplanted 22 daffodils from our house to the farmstead.
